ALISHA SILVERSTEIN IS A COSTUME DESIGNER, FASHION DESIGNER, ARTIST AND STYLIST. ALISHA’S FASHION AND COSTUMING INFLUENCES COME FROM HER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCES LIVING AND WORKING IN FASHION FORWARD CITIES SUCH AS SAN FRANCISCO, LOS ANGELES, AND MILAN. ALISHA’S CAREER BEGINS WITH FASHION DESIGN IN MILAN, ITALY, WHERE SHE DEVELOPED A SKILLSET IN THE REFINED CRAFT OF PATTERN MAKING.

INFLUENCED BY THE EDWARDIAN ERA, SHE FINDS THE ELEGANCE IN THE HARD MATERIALS SUCH AS: LEATHER, CANVAS AND NAUGAHYDE, MIXED WITH DELICATE LACES AND SILKS MADE FOR A BEAUTIFULLY TEXTURED GARMENT. HER BACKGROUND IN FASHION DESIGN AND UPHOLSTERY HAS LENT ITSELF TO SPECIALIZED COSTUME BUILDS. THIS HAS ALLOWED HER TO EXPLORE THE UNDEFINED AND DEVELOP A CHARACTER FROM THE OUTREACHES OF HER IMAGINATION.

ALISHA CURRENTLY RESIDES IN LOS ANGELES, WHERE SHE WORKS AS A COSTUME DESIGNER. SHE HAS BEEN LEAD COSTUME DESIGNER FOR FEATURE FILMS, EPISODIC TELEVISION, COMMERCIAL, AND SHORT FILMS FOR A WIDE VARIETY OF PRODUCTION COMPANIES. SHE IS A MEMBER OF IATSE, AND WORKS AS A UNION COSTUME DESIGNER IN LOCAL 892.

“THE MOST FASCINATING ELEMENT TO THE COSTUMING INDUSTRY IS THE ABILITY TO ENHANCE THE OVERALL AESTHETIC OF THE FILM. THERE IS GREAT IMPORTANCE IN THE INTEGRITY OF THE COSTUMES, AND THE IMPORTANCE TO MAINSTREAM HISTORICAL ACCURACY. COSTUMES PROVIDE A VISUAL REFERENCE TO GAIN AN OVERALL UNDERSTANDING OF THE ENVIRONMENT OF THE FILM. IT IS THROUGH THESE CHALLENGES THAT I LOVE BEING CONTINUOUSLY PUSHED AS A COSTUME DESIGNER.”

- ALISHA SILVERSTEIN, DESIGNER
